The design brief was to create an inviting, contemporary backyard space for this young family.
Multiple sections of tired, cracked concrete were the first to go. We unified the space and its varying fence materials by painting the boundary, helping it recede and allowing the new hedge planting to pop. With the introduction of organic lines through the garden edging, the space was immediately relaxed and now, with a small lawn surrounded by low maintenance plantings, there’s plenty of space for the kids to play. We included a grafted Norway Maple which will pro- vide summer shade and allow warmth during the winter.
Travertine pathways link the home and garden and an open, level terrace now gives the family a space for outdoor dining.
